Postmodernism and Music

•Work that is created Based on older material, this includes sampling.

What is sampling? Who uses it? and where is it played?

Sampling is the act of taking a small part or sample, of one sound recording and reusing in a different song. This is typically done with a sampler, which can be a piece of hardware or a computer program on a digital computer. People who sample are commonly referred to as producers or beat makers. For example in the song Human Behavious by Bjork a sample from Ray Brown Orchestra Go Down Dying, she has taken a sample from right at the begining of the song and has used it throughout her song. But then Hieroglyphics have sampled Bjork in their song, Let It Roll.
Some smapled music is mainstreamed, such as Florence and the Machines, You got the love. But there is alot of sampled music that on reaches a very niche market. to get more of an understanding of where you can listen to sampled music i had a look and listen online, and got some ideas from some friends who i know listen to artists.

Postmodernism and Music

• The postmodern sensibility that anything can be considered cool in an ironic “I know it’s bad, but it’s so bad it’s good” way.
An example of this is Lily Allen’s first album “alright, still” a lot of the song she wrote were ironic in a way we knew what she was singing about was wrong, but they were such happy tunes we still sang along. For example in her song LDN these lyrics are this “there was a little old lady who was walking down the road, she was struggling with bags from Tesco, there were people in the city having lunch in the park I believe that it’s called al-fresco, when a kids came along to offer a hand, but before she had time to except it, hits her over the head, doesn’t care if he’s dead cause he’s got all her jewellery and wallet” Here is the video from LDN

To put the postmodernism into context the next lyric in the song is "you might laugh you might cry” which proves to point above that even though it’s really bad, its bad enough for some audiences to laugh at.
